I wouldn't say in general overweight people have low confidence and are unhappy, but as Niick points out, mainstream society treats, and the media portrays overweight people in a negative manner. This doesn't mean the person will lose confidence and not be happy, but it's one element against them which others don't have.

I think its all dependent. I meet people who are happier bigger and those who are skinny and still self conscious. I myself am self conscious and definitely not over weight. What I think it comes down to is their experiences. Often times when people are one bad event can alter ones perception of themselves.
